GEMMA ALPUENTE

ABOUT

(b. 1993, Algemesí, Spain)

Gemma Alpuente is a young artist who has developed a distinctly personal pop/street style through color, a rich visual lexicon, and three-dimensionality.

Her academic background includes several university degrees. First, a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts (Facultad de San Carlos, UPV)—a goal she pursued from an early age. She then completed a Bachelor’s in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (Facultad de San Carlos, UPV), driven by a desire to grasp the role of Cultural Heritage in society. Finally, she earned a Master’s in Education with a specialization in Art (Facultad de Magisterio, University of Valencia), motivated by her growing commitment to sharing art, culture, and knowledge within formal education.

Her vocation is artistic-plastic research, which has led her to work across disciplines—exploring and employing diverse materials, formats, and techniques—to develop her own highly recognizable working method.

Despite her youth, she has been active on the international art circuit for years. Her works are held in collections across Spain, Europe, and Asia. She has collaborated with renowned galleries such as Galería Shiras, and is currently represented by Galería Cuatro, SGA, Canal Gallery, and Saisho, both nationally and internationally.

In 2023 her practice gained prominent recognition with several national awards, notably the Alhambra Prize at Abierto Valencia, where her retrospective “Squeeze” became the most acclaimed exhibition among the public.

In the words of art critic Alejandro Villar Torres: “Gemma Alpuente’s creations convey the idea of art as a struggle—capable of transforming the world through color and beauty—breaking canons and stereotypes, crossing into new formats with materials and techniques that transcend the concept of ‘painting.’ She introduces us to a three-dimensional metamorphosis in which color becomes matter, made malleable by a chemical process that grants it physical presence—substance, reality. Color itself boils; it spills beyond the frame. Color is; it exists beyond visual boundaries.”

ENEAS

June 2025

Madrid, Spain

ENEAS was a one-night collective exhibition curated by Saisho in collaboration with Eneaverso.

Held in Madrid, it brought together 21 contemporary artists and over 600 guests—including collectors, curators, and critics—in a multisensory journey through eight levels of artistic experimentation: from composition and material to light, texture, and technique. Inspired by the myth of Aeneas and structured around curatorial criteria rather than trends, ENEAS marked a new approach to experiencing and valuing contemporary art.

INTERIOR LANDSCAPES

September 2023 - February 2024

In this homage to Matisse, Ikella Alonso shifts from the aerial logic of the map to a vertical composition—transforming the plan into an elevation. Drawing from satellite views of Le Cateau-Cambrésis, Matisse’s birthplace, Alonso evokes not just geography but memory, conjuring fractured reflections that recall windows opening toward the sea. These works suggest a poetic reawakening of painting: from blueprint to vision, from distance to intimacy.
