ÓSCAR SECO

ABOUT

(b. 1964, Madrid, Spain)

Óscar Seco engages in a critical painting practice that subverts historical, political, and social narratives through hybrid iconography combining war imagery, comic book aesthetics, and apocalyptic symbolism. His compositions are dense and narrative, integrating historical references and dystopian settings with visual structures loaded with symbolism. He balances rigorous drawing with grotesque parody, creating tension between form and content. Conceptually, his work is rooted in symbolic revisionism, questioning power myths, collective memory, and structural violence through irony, appropriation, and anachronism.

PAST EXHIBITIONS

#WEAREALLGOINGTODIE

September 2024 - March 2025

In #weareallgoingtodie, Óscar Seco embraces irony, pop culture, and cognitive estrangement to construct a visual world where baroque painting, movie monsters, comic heroes, and historical imagery collide without hierarchy. Through appropriation and playful recombination, his works blur fiction and critique, inviting viewers into a chaotic yet deliberate mosaic of references. With subversive wit and a dynamic, electric language, Seco reclaims the painted surface as a space for imaginative resistance—one that defies monotony in an age of image overload.

EVENTS

ENEAS

June 2025

Madrid, Spain

ENEAS was a one-night collective exhibition curated by Saisho in collaboration with Eneaverso.

Held in Madrid, it brought together 21 contemporary artists and over 600 guests—including collectors, curators, and critics—in a multisensory journey through eight levels of artistic experimentation: from composition and material to light, texture, and technique. Inspired by the myth of Aeneas and structured around curatorial criteria rather than trends, ENEAS marked a new approach to experiencing and valuing contemporary art.
