ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Rooted in the vibrant pulse of his native Spain, Rubén Sánchez merges color, abstraction, and storytelling to explore the human condition through the lens of place. His bold, emblematic works—ranging from paintings to large-scale sculptures—fuse personal emotion with visual rhythm, offering a kind of chromatic therapy that invites introspection.

Drawing from his graffiti roots and post-cubist language, Sánchez transforms anxiety into exuberance, using form and palette as a mirror to our inner worlds. Each work is a landscape of feeling—alive, questioning, and unmistakably his.

EXHIBITION COMMENTARY

by AUTHOR

“The place remains important to the artist Ruben Sánchez.

Because the environment + the person = the human condition.

He is interested in how the world understands us and how we understand it. With characteristic emblematic icons present throughout his work, the materiality of anxiety and overcoming intrigues him, giving rise to exuberant paintings, sculptures, murals, and more. Sánchez points out that his works “sometimes act as mirrors, creating colorful therapy and filling the gallery with questions that invite us to reflect on the mysteries of our mind, the most powerful tool we have.” His “post-cubism flirts with abstraction,” and with black, white, and the boldest colors reminiscent of his native country, Spain, his work fuses person and place in a musicality that attracts all eyes. There is a story being told in each work.

Born and raised in Madrid, Ruben Sánchez comes from the graffiti and skateboarding worlds of the 90s. His painting palette is vibrant and evokes a lively life, his sculptures have beautifully rounded shapes in surprising monochrome, and his black and white works are contemporary cubist paintings.

His work is found in exhibitions and collections around the world, from Jordan to Miami, China to Dubai. His famous commissions include large outdoor sculptures for Nike’s headquarters, the brand identity for the 2019 UEFA Champions League, a Ruben Sánchez-signed hotel in Dubai (The Muse), and works for Apple Music, Armani, among others.”
