OTÓN

ABOUT

(b. 1978, Madrid, Spain)

Otón is a self-taught artist from Madrid who has been passionate about painting and drawing since childhood. He began learning under the guidance of a family member, a painter and photographer connected to Madrid’s countercultural movement La Movida. With him, Otón sketched his first works at the age of six.

His pieces parody iconic images of popular culture in a scatological and biting way. Just as a child might scribble, blot, or doodle a smile on Mickey Mouse with total freedom, Otón uses these resources to create ironic, mocking images that elicit a smile.

Gestural impulses on the surface—using pencils, crayons, pastels, and more—enrich a lucid, sharp body of work that leaves no one indifferent. Since 2023, he has participated in national and international art fairs.

PAST EXHIBITIONS

SWEET MALICE

February 2024 - September 2024

OTÓN blends childlike charm with razor-sharp satire. His monochrome drawings, filled with gestural spontaneity and iconic cartoon figures, unravel contradictions between innocence and subversion, humor and critique. Using simple tools—pencil, crayon, pastel—he creates a visual language that feels playful yet provocatively honest.

Through irony and instinct, Otón invites us to unlearn, to see the world through a mischievous lens where mistakes are part of the message and laughter becomes a radical act.
